3G Discontinued – January 2024
I hope this post finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share some significant news with you that will have an impact on the telecommunications industry. Starting January 2024, for EE the era of 3G will officially be coming to an end.
As we all know, 3G (third generation) technology has played a pivotal role in revolutionizing mobile communications, paving the way for the introduction of smartphones and enabling faster data transfers compared to its predecessor, 2G. However, as technology continues to advance at an astonishing pace, it’s now time to bid farewell to this venerable service.
The decision to discontinue 3G comes as part of a natural evolution in the telecommunications landscape. With the advent of 4G and subsequent introduction of 5G, the need to allocate spectrum resources efficiently and enhance network capabilities has become paramount. By retiring 3G, service providers can reallocate these valuable resources to support the demands of 4G and 5G networks, offering users enhanced speed, lower latency, and improved connectivity.
This transition is not without its challenges, as there are still pockets of the UK where 3G remains the primary mode of connectivity. To ensure a smooth transition, Safe Stock have been using 4G Modems from the outset and all data contracts we have provided are 4G. This means that you should not see any changes or interruptions in service. That said we do have some Vending Machines that are located in poor signal areas. These we can offer external or booster antenna’s to improve the connection to 4G.
